RE: "Best Meals in a Truck Camper"

Serenity525- I doubt you can step into this without getting something stuck on your shoe, but you may try. Welcome to the TC Forum.
Your statement and question; "I'll never deal with cheese in a cooler floating in melted ice again as long as I live!! Coolers are for beverages. How can I keep it this way?" As a TC owner, you will probably have to stop eating cheese. :B
Wayne
Are you implying that it isn't good to cut the cheese in the confines of a truck camper?

Any fish I catch and cook on the BBQ.
Sleepy 3 the rest of you 2.
Way to go Sleepster!
Good luck and good camping.
This would be a good year for you to come to the south east. We've got a parking spot for you. We're in some beautiful mountains and parks.
Jim and Sheila visited this summer... they hauled some TN wine back to CA. Imagine that.

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

Prices in our region dropped drastically yesterday: from $1.19 a liter to $1.12! Wow...
I'll stick by my earlier prediction of $50 a bbl by end of December (whatever that translates to in retail gasoline).
....all bets are off after this global financial disaster ( my sources tell me at least 12-months of volatility); however, I'll bet that a bbl oil will be $130 US by mid 2010 once again...
Silver-
This has been anounced on msnbc in the last hour:
The International Monetary Fund warned Saturday that debt-ridden banks were pushing the global financial system to the brink of meltdown and wealthy nations had so far failed to restore confidence.
Yesterdays dollar is tomorrows dime... we hope. That's a new factor.

RE: Building Camper from Scratch...Was it Worth it?

I built this one in 1969/70. Not near as pretty probably but beautiful to us. We would go out for a month at a time... stayed inside Fort Wilderness for 3 weeks at one time. Three kids in the queen cabover, me and my wife on the dinette bed.
We used it for 33 years... now it's on the farm... ocassionally used for deer hunting since.

Memorial Day, 2007... the crew at Hope Valley, CA., Everyone in the picture is close to the TC forum.
We prepared crab stuffed peppers for the evening meal.

It was cold... our leader brought a propane cataletic heater that is at the far end of the shelter.
We were along the outlet stream from these lakes.

Sleepy,
I have been through that once, Yuppies move in to get away from it all.
Than bring it all there and screw it up for the natives...
Do you live close to where the thru hikers travel?
I was stationed at Loring 50 years ago... lived most of the time over a 3 year period at Sinclair on Long Lake... I don't even find it on a lot of maps now. I still remember all of the families that lived there.

sleepy, I didn't ask if you had a camper. I am asking if propane may be leaking into your camper that you're not aware of...
Nah, and we don't carry our p00p in a suit case either. No strange smiles, err smells in our house.

RE: "Best Meals in a Truck Camper"

sleepy, do you have a stove in your camper? Do you have an oven in your camper? Do you have a fridge? What are these things used for? FOOD! This question obviously wasn't directed towards you since you feel the need to condemn it. If a moderator wants to eliminate it, so be it.
This might make you feel right at home... possum recipes
Yes, I do have a full sized truck camper. It even has a slide.
When I was young I messed up my share of possum...
Now I prefer "sail rabbit"

RE: Massachusettes Inspection Stickers..

Ditto on Florida, no Vehicle insp,
Sleepy, I thought Tn passed a smog inspection???
But I have been looking at property in TN,
No way... we don't have any inspection stations to check for smog or any thing else.
TN doesn't interfere with it's citizens. That will probably change with all of the newbes from CA and FL that are moving here... wanting HOA's, etc. The only HOAs in my neighborhood are down on the corner where they don't bother us people with truck campers.

I love Tennessee... we don't have any vehicle inspections... and our lic plates are only $24.50/year... no income tax either.
I knew there was a reason that I moved here.... and it is beautiful too!

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

Biodiesel plants do make a profit but it depends on your feedstock. We have a local plant that makes 10,000 gallons a day and they are expanding it to 20,000. The way they do it is have a exclusive deal with a waste oil collector. Not only do they get all the oil they need, the collector takes payment in fuel so the cash flow is low. I sold my last 500 gallons today that I had in reserve and I plan to go into personal use only mode plus a few friends for the winter. I really would dislike having to go back to diesel, my truck runs so much better on biodiesel.
Just curious:
Where I worked we had engine test labs. E-85 had 30% less energy per gallon than regular gasoline.
Do you know how much energy that your biodiesel has compared to dinodiesel? Can I run it in my Duramax?
Thanks

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

Well, I for one filled up our daily vehicle last weekend.... 5.4 gallons for the month. Of couse that is more than 350 miles. (The tank holds 11 gallons.)
At our house we don't just talk the talk... we walk the walk!
I enjoy this tree hugger stuff. Don't you?

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

As our economic woes get worse the price will keep going down because we will use less, then IF things get better the price will start rising again. The election will have nothing to do with it.
Then why isn't the Canadian prices coming down as the price/barrel drops. We'll soon see won't we?

RE: Electric hot water

Sleepy...you know he is not in the right place but try and help him out....do you know anything about water dual purpose LPG/electric heaters??? I have one and thought that I could help.....That is what the pics are there for regardless. Help!... not hurt those that ask for your guidence.... regardless of their wandering...
If I have a problem with my GMC truck I'd probably get better answers to problems by talking to other GMC/Chev owners with similar equipment.
since I have a duramax diesel engine... I'd even need to talk with people that owned or at least had real with that engine.
If I had a trailer than is used to live in campgrounds with hook-ups I'd probably like an electric hot water tank with a little more size or one of the compact instant hotwater heater.
But... why would a trailer owner need my thoughts on this one... I've never been in a campground and never hooked-up except in the driveway.

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

Wow! This is even breaking my most recent (and, I admit, wild) prediction of $2.70 a gallon by late this fall/early winter, I'm happy to say.
87 octane gasoline is now at the mid $2.70 range throughout Oklahoma and in parts of Kansas and other states.
Does this mean that the Enron and London Loopholes bubble has burst, along with index speculation ? (it's too long to go into the complex history of oil commodities deregulation in the US in this Forum). How many speculators have been burned to a crisp going long? Any lessons learned here?
My new revised prediction for West Texas Intermediate and the Middle-East stuff is, are you sitting?, $50 bbl US.
Retail gasoline by January: $$2.25 a US gallon 87 octane.
Have a great day...
Silver-
*Note: on our side of the fence, Quebec retail gasoline really hasn't gone down at all! We're still paying an incredible ~~$1.22 a liter here (or, a whopping $4.31 an imperial gallon, imagine that!
Ours will go back up Nov 4th.... we have short memories. There is no need to lower your fuel prices at this time.
